- I decided to self study the AP course. I read this twice and got a 5.
I also bought the flashcards but I only made it like 1/3 way through.
Other than that, the only other thing I did to prep was use its multiple choice practice tests, as well as the released exams on the collegeboard website. But be aware; the collegeboard multiple choice released exams are much easier compared to the actual AP exam. I think Barron's multiple choice tests are more accurate. I didn't get to studying the Barron's FRQs, but I did study and complete a couple from the collegboard website.
About the book
It provided great material and almost everything you need to know for the exam. Probably only 5% of the questions on the AP exam weren't covered. The book has real life situations/exams for psychology terms, which I really enjoyed as they aid in learning. Also, there are some chapters that require great memorization. I'd make notes or my own labels so that I can go back to them and review, without having to reread the whole chapter. Many other chapters provide summary charts at the end, which I'd also write notes next to so that when I'm reviewing the charts they'd be easier for me to understand.
I know some people say Barron's is boring and a chore to read, but it actually wasn't bad and it was rather interesting. - I’m currently in ap psych and i understand the material and am currently trying to review with this prepbook. But there is strange wording and even inaccurate information (mainly definitions). It’s annoying and not helping me in any way a princeton review would benefit you more than this prepbook
- The practice exams in the book are more difficult than what you would be presented with on the AP test, but it's a great practice book. I got a 5 when I took it in 2017, the sections and the pre-assessment test, in the beginning,​ do a really great job on assessing which topics you may need to go over more, and help you prioritize.

- This book covers major parts of the AP Psychology course material and exam incredibly well. It played a crucial part in my son getting an A in AP Psychology for the semester. I would recommend to purchase the Princeton Review AP Psychology book to go along with this one as they really complement each other very well. - I recommend Barrons for any social studies AP class. 5 steps to a 5 is just too much info that you don't need to know for any social studies class. These are great with summaries of all the important stuff from a chapter in very simple words where you don't need a dictionary, and there are multiple choice questions after each chapter. The questions are not easy to the point where you can do without studying, they are challenging enough to make you ready for the exam. Would recommend this over any other book any time.
- Not a fan of Barron's review. I keep hoping they'll get better as they have such a big name, but I'm always proven wrong. Too much emphasis on unnecessary topics and not enough on others.
- My background is biology and medicine. I had no previous experience with psychology course in college. This 250-page book was really helpful to me to get what I supposed to get form a thick textbook of Psychology. I recommend it for any student who has not any experience and is not confident with humanities courses.
